A Super Secret Family Recipe

First:

GO MAVS!

My dear husband is a Mavs fan through and through. We're talkin' DIE-HARD. Oh, how he loves them so. Maybe even more than he loves moi – since they don’t ask him to fold the laundry or water the plants or unload the dishwasher. JK. I hope.

In honor of tonight's HUGE game, I wanted to make Hubby something special. A little treat he could enjoy at halftime. I was flipping through my recipe binder earlier today when it hit me: My Family's Top Secret Peach Cobbler. Bingo. That would do the trick.

It originally came from a friend of Mom's about twenty-five years ago. (Thank you, DP!) We don't generally reveal this recipe because of the complexity and secret-ness. (That’s totally a word). BUT, alas, I have decided that I must. Because y'all have to make this scrumptious and perfect halftime-of-the-basketball-game dessert ASAP. (Or to just eat for breakfast. It has fruit. I won't judge.) It's extra crust-y. For us, that's the best part.

Please don't be intimated by this.  I promise: YOU CAN DO IT.

The C's World Famous Peach Cobbler Delight
(Yes, it actually has a couple of names! It’s “kind of a big deal.”)

Ingredients:

1 Frozen Peach Pie
Cinnamon (to taste)
Sugar (to taste)
1/2 stick of butter (sliced into small pieces)

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. (That’s what the pie box says.)

2. Grease bottom of baking dish with "Butter Flavored" cooking spray.

3. Chop frozen pie into chunks.

4. Place half of the pie in the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle half of the butter and some of the cinnamon and sugar on top.

5. Top with the rest of the chopped pie and butter. Sprinkle with more cinnamon and sugar.

6. Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. You might want to start checking it at about 30 minutes. And it may actually need an hour. It will all depend on your oven.

7. Put a BIG scoop of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream on top – letting it melt into divine deliciousness!

YUM. I know. It may seem daunting, but every bite is SO worth it. LOL.

Tip: Of course you can do this same recipe with any frozen fruit pie you find: cherry, blackberry, blueberry. It's fabulous with a frozen pecan pie, too.

Bon appetit!

I hope y'all have had a wonderful weekend. And for good measure and luck:

GO MAVS!

TLC--

First, how DARE you reveal this SECRET family heirloom recipe without my permission! Luckily, I have already forgiven you.

Second, I realize I don't cook much, but I have NEVER "sprinkled" butter on anything. I'm sure everyone will understand what you meant. Perhaps "gently put some tiny pats of butter...?"

Third, your Dad just saw the pictures and looked sadly at me--then the kitchen--then back at me--and said, "Where's my peach cobbler? I'm watching the Mavs, too!" Sheesh.

smooch and GO MAVS!!!

Okay I have a peach cobbler recipe that I didn't think could get any easier, but I'm pretty sure yours beats mine. But if you ever feel like switching things up, give this one a try...
1 (24.5oz) can of peaches in light syrup
1 package of yellow cake mix
1 stick of butter (cut into pieces)
1 cup brown sugar (I personally think this is a little too sweet, so sometimes I cut this in half)
and 1/2 cup chopped walnuts. Preheat oven to 350. Layer ingredients in a 9x13 dish in order, starting with peaches. Bake for 40 min. Best served warm and with ice cream. And, if you are just making this for the two of you, you can totally cut the recipe in half and bake in a 9x9 dish. It doesn't have a traditional crust but the yellow cake mix is delish!

Yum, Taylor! Sounds delish and super easy! Thank you!

Though would it be bad if I didn't 1/2 it -- even though there's just two of us? I mean, I'm sure peaches have, like, vitamin C. Or maybe A. And butter has calcium. Right??? I think so.

Okay, I think we're working up to an LOL cookbook. It's just so much trouble to print off a recipe every time you post one! Hey, I'd buy it.

Autumn,

Don't think we don't remember how experienced YOU are in putting cookbooks together! Just the thought of it makes me shiver with fear. Remember, on Dobie Gillis, when Maynard G. Krebbs would say: "Work?" Picture me saying "Cookbook?" just like that. Hubby and TLC should do one. But he's not a "Leighton" so they'd have to come up with another name. Ha.

Once again, AMAZING AUTUMN, TLC and I treasure your confidence in us.

smooches,
ELC
